"A Doctor Speaks" makes reference to 40 percent of all recovery occurring through AA. When I initially read this, I thought, "How do the other 60 percent do it?" I can't imagine being able to obtain and maintain sobriety without AA. My other question was, "Where does this statistic come from?" Although this is not my area of expertise, the percentage of individuals recovering by means other than AA struck me as being rather high. So my curiosity was piqued. I'm glad I didn't read this when I was in early recovery. I might have cut myself off from the lifeline that gives me a design for living and the remarkable people I connect with.
