I am writing to extend my deepest gratitude to Holly H., who wrote "Spiritual Agony" (February 2001). The foundations of my Al-Anon recovery (nine years) were shaken to the core recently when my husband, twelve years sober, was diagnosed with a number of psychiatric ailments and then my twenty-three-year-old son was sentenced to a Canadian federal penitentiary for taking a broken beer bottle and slashing a peer while in a blackout. The doctor at the hospital told me that my son should not have been alive, his blood alcohol level at the time was so high. I thank God every day that he was.
