AA claims to offer its hand to all who seek it. Yet in online meetings and in the Grapevine, I am often exposed to exclusionary thinking which implies that "pure" alcoholics are in some way better than anyone else. In much of this sharing, I sense a turning away from the current realities of alcoholism and other addictions--and a turning away from the still-suffering alcoholic who happens to be struggling with other drugs as well.
