Medic!

It was January 1967, and I'd been in Vietnam for over seven months. I was twenty years old,. . .like most of my comrades. The lieutenant who led our platoon was twenty-three, old as far as we were concerned. Our platoon sergeant was very old: twenty-nine. My unit was involved in combat daily. We were as far up front as any unit was at the time.
