Happy Anniversary, Dad!

The phone rang late in the afternoon the day after Mother's Day 1998. It was my mother. Her voice was serious. She said, "Your daddy lost his job this morning. He showed up for work drunk from the night before." This was big news. All through his drinking career he had never lost a job. He'd been in his profession for over twenty years and had never missed a day's work. Maybe this was the bottom for my dad.
