Anonymity breaks?

The recent deaths of two members of our Fellowship have made me question the principle of anonymity as it applies to members who have died. Diane was a well-known and well-loved person in our city. Her memorial service, held at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium, was attended by both AA and non-AA members. The local newspaper covered the service on its front page. AA members who spoke openly of Diane and her service in AA were identified by last names, clearly a violation of our Eleventh Tradition. But was it appropriate for them to acknowledge their own and Diane's AA membership at this public event?
