The Seven-day Test

In 1945, in Miami, Florida, I met a woman from New York who'd been a waitress at Child's Restaurant. A group of AA members often came in and sat at her table after a meeting, and one of these, Jack C., was now in Miami, and she introduced us. He told me he was an alcoholic and a member of AA and was soon to celebrate his first-year birthday. I had heard of the organization vaguely. Someone had mentioned a magazine article and I was curious. He invited us to his anniversary meeting, where he was the speaker.
