Interview With Bob S., Jr.

Bob S., Jr., son of AA co-founder Dr. Bob, stopped by the Grapevine office in New York in April 2001, and it seemed like a good time to get some historical perspective on the Twelve Steps. Born June 5, 1918, and one of the last living witnesses to the founding of AA in Akron in 1935, Bob remains sharp of memory, wit, and dress, appearing much younger than his age. A bomber pilot during World War II, he spent most of his business career as an independent oil producer in Nicona, Texas, a town of 3,000 near the Oklahoma border. Carrying out his father's dictum of "love and service" in a political context, he used his accounting skills for many years on the school board, hospital board, and as mayor.
