Getting Sober in San Francisco, 1945

My D-Day was January 2, 1945. I had promised my wife, children, and relatives I would not drink again after January 1, 1945. However, I was drunk on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and every day during the holidays. I don't remember much of the game. I blacked out before half-time and don't remember getting home. I did remain sober from January 2 to January 4, with a bad hangover.
