A small miracle in Mazatlán

When I had three months of sobriety, a nonalcoholic friend of mine got a great deal on a trip to Mazatlán, Mexico, and I decided that I was sober enough to go along. My sponsor and my new AA friends suggested that I wait until I had more sober time under my belt. I pooh-poohed their suggestions. I knew what to do: I would take some AA tapes and my Big Book and look in the international meeting schedule for meetings and phone numbers of sober alcoholics in Mazatlán. What I thought was my ace in the hole was that language would be no barrier; I was fluent in Spanish.
