Miracle In a Burger Joint

Of all my experiences in sobriety, none can match what happened the day that the Promises started coming true in my life: it was a Sunday afternoon and I was to meet my estranged wife at a local burger joint to give my children back to her after visiting with them for a day. Our divorce was almost final, she was taking good care of our children and herself, and was moving forward with her life. Unfortunately, I was unable to accept this fact and, more often than not, was filled with fear, anger, and jealousy. These feelings were something I constantly struggled with and had to turn over to my Higher Power on a daily basis. She soon arrived, and as we were taking our food to our table, I noticed the new engagement ring she was sporting. I said, "Nice ring--where did you get that?" She looked at it, smiled and spoke his name. I could feel my blood pressure rise, and I knew that I was about to ruin the day. But instead of preparing to throw my hamburger into her face, to rant, rave, cuss, and generally cause a scene, I silently said that simple prayer that I had become so very familiar with: "God, please help me."
