Finding My Voice

First, she had to find out she had a life. Then she had to learn how to live it.

I grew up an only child in an alcoholic family. I rarely spoke, but when I did, I had such a soft voice that people always asked me to repeat what I had just said. Yet even when I did, my voice was more likely to get softer and softer until only my lips moved.
