Any Length
One evening at the 5:30 meeting at my home group, after I'd been sober a couple of weeks, I heard, for the first time, the words "willing to go to any length." Someone was reading "How It Works" from Chapter Five in the Big Book. I got out the little Big Book that a member of the group had given me with his number in it. I read and re-read the paragraph over and over again. Still, I couldn't understand what the book meant in relation to my recovery or me. What did I have to do to go to any length? I asked my sponsor, I asked fellow members of AA, I read the Big Book, and I asked that "any length" be a topic in meetings.
