The real ideal

The letter "Don't Idealize AA" (September 2003) struck a chord. AA wasn't wonderful when I came in, and no one was going to spoon-feed me this program. It seemed as if no one cared if I got drunk or not. My sponsor finally told me that AAs cared about my survival, and if I didn't like what was happening, I could leave any time I chose. The Steps were designed to relieve the obsession to drink and to change my attitude and outlook on life.
