The cost of a drink

I'm writing to you from behind high barbed-wire fences, thinking how clear everything seems now. I hit my bottom thirty months ago. I chose to ignore what I learned in Alcoholics Anonymous, drank, and used meth. The result of that choice was the kidnapping of my girlfriend. After overdosing, I turned myself in. I was then under arrest for the charges of kidnap, burglary, and assault, with no memory of what had happened--all because I could not follow the simple program of Alcoholics Anonymous and take the suggestions of so many people in it.
