The meeting at 2 a.m.

One of the first things my sponsor told me was that if my head started to talk to me, go to meetings. This was great advice, which I took to heart. Unfortunately, my head talked to me late at night. Sometimes, it even woke me from a sound sleep saying, "Wake up, Sallye. We want to talk to you." This presented a dilemma, because at 2:30 in the morning, meetings were scarce. So I'd grab a copy of the Grapevine, put the dining room chairs in a circle, and begin a meeting of my own. First, I read the Preamble; then I moved to a different chair and read "How It Works." I moved to another chair and read one of the stories in the Grapevine. The voices in my head had a wonderful time discussing the finer points in each article. But in the end, the voices were quieted. I got sleepy, and I was sober and once again serene.
