Losing Lisa

Together, a group sifts through a tangle of feelings with meetings

Our group is in such emotional flux right now. People had been concerned about Lisa for several months. Most of us knew that her efforts to achieve sobriety had begun close to ten years ago, and here she was drinking again after four years of sobriety. On Tuesday night, three friends from the group became concerned enough to drive out to her place. After getting no response to repeated knocking, they found a parted curtain that allowed a view of her shirtless torso slumped in a chair. Resisting panic, they forced entry. They noted the empty beer cans as they reached to shake her into consciousness, but there was no consciousness left in her already icy corpse.
