Escape to Alaska
I was twenty-four and working for a third summer in a resort hotel in Denali, Alaska. The hotel was staffed with seasonal workers, most of whom could be classified as ambitious college students looking for adventure, or as lost individuals escaping from the reality of life. In my three summers, I had moved from the first classification firmly into the second. During the year, I had been fired from two jobs, rolled my car over in my own driveway, and had my trailer repossessed.
