Sometimes a prayer for others is a prayer for yourself

When I came into AA in July 1983, I carried with me a giant-sized parcel of shame and a huge resentment against God for everything that had happened to me. So under the guidance of my sponsor (who told me, "Try my God. He does good work"), a day at a time, I began to turn some things over to him, and when he did a good job on them, I gave him more. As time went on, I became very grateful to be getting sober and getting better.
