The up side of @#*&

Even though I was dry and had stopped drinking for a number of weeks prior to attending AA, I resisted attending meetings because of AA's perceived "religious overtones." However, a one-night slip persuaded me that my present course of treatment was not going to work, so I reluctantly began attending. At some point in the first few days, I heard some rough street language and the thought went through my mind, "These are my kind of people. I think I'll stay." Those words were what I needed at that time to connect me to the program.
