A novel approach

One day, I was reading a spy novel in which the main character was an alcoholic, though he never admitted it. (This was when I was still drinking, after completing four treatment programs and attending hundreds of AA meetings.) I could see how his drinking affected his behavior, and it occurred to me that I could get a better look at my own alcoholic behavior if I wrote a novel about a character with my character defects.
