Cooking With Marcelle

When I got sober, I realized cooking was one of my triggers and that I had better stay out of the kitchen for a while because I used to love to drink wine while I cooked. After about nine months of eating take-out food, I felt strong enough to cook again. But I had a tough time when a recipe called for a tablespoon of wine. I would open a bottle, use a tablespoon full, then immediately pour the rest down the sink. It seemed so wasteful and, well, dangerous. I mentioned this at a meeting and was given the following substitutions, which I've been cooking and staying sober with ever since. I was just thinking I should send them to the Grapevine, when I saw "Recipe for Peace." It mentions that only about 60 percent of alcohol burns off in cooking, so I figure that was God's way of telling me to follow through on my impulse. Bon appetit!
