The Open Door

Since I first read the text of the Big Book, I have thought of it as being a truly prophetic writing. Despite the fact that it was written years before my birth, it speaks directly to my life, my experience, and my flaws, as if written by an intimate acquaintance. And thanks to its principal author's vision, it contains statements that describe the Fellowship as it has grown, rather than the male, white, Protestant Fellowship that existed at its writing: "All sections of this country and many of its occupations are represented, as well as many political, economic, social, and religious backgrounds. We are people who normally would not mix."
