Spiritual two-by-four

I am currently deployed in Iraq. Before being deployed, I hit as many meetings as I could, knowing that without my sobriety, I would have nothing. I received many hugs, good wishes, prayers, and a ring with the AA symbol on it. I packed up my duffel bags, adding my Big Book, my meditation book, a couple of Grapevines, and the spiritual tools so freely given to me. Once in Kuwait, I kept my eyes opened for a "Friends of Bill W." or a circle and triangle sign. As the days passed, I began to experience the fear, anger, and self pity that this alcoholic knows too well. I contacted the chaplain and asked if he knew of any alcoholics in our squadron--to no avail. But some of the fear subsided just from trying to carry the message.
