I've been sober now for fourteen years. My first sponsor told me that he couldn't stay sober until he was diagnosed with bipolar depression and got help. I myself have schizophrenia, an anxiety disorder, and major depression. I used to work the Steps over and over, and still I was an emotional basket case. I finally became suicidal and was put in the hospital. God only knows why I didn't drink. The point is my sponsor and I are both sober now and doing well since we got the extra help we needed along with the AA program. If reading this enlightens one person and helps him or her, I feel it was worth writing.
