All trustees

I could not help but laugh when I read the letter "Get out the vote" in the October, 2004 issue. While I do not believe it's appropriate to wear a political button at an AA meeting, I do not think this is divisive or a violation of the spirit of AA's Traditions. Wearing political buttons at work or at an AA meeting may be in poor taste, but this is a lesson learned when we learn about our own character and our own motives through working the Steps. It might be better to ask the AAs mentioned what Step they are on, or what their sponsor thinks of the campaign buttons. When I say I could not help but laugh, I wondered if I would have to remove the political bumper sticker on my car, which I use to pick up newcomers and take them to meetings. AA itself, not its members, should refrain from getting involved in political affairs. We, as members of AA, are allowed to have opinions and express those opinions. It is our motives that we have to watch out for. We are all trustees of the AA Traditions.
