The Telemarketer's Tale

His Higher Power was working overtime the day he made the call

I've been sober since April 1998. I had been trying to get sober for a very long time. I'd been through nine recovery homes over the past twenty years and never had a clue about "how it works." I started out with a D.U.I. and that little nudge from a judge called a court card and some pressure from the folks to go to rehab. After my second run-in with the law and a lot of those damn meetings, still not a clue! I just don't know what happened this last time. I didn't come here to get sober again--it was raining and I was cold, wet, and living under a tree next to the freeway, eating out of garbage cans, doing whatever it took to get another drink. I knew I could get three hots and a cot without going to jail, so this turned out to be my ninth recovery home and my third time through rehab. So here's my first God-shot or spiritual awakening. I finished the program for the first time in my life and wound up in sober living.
