Snake People

The spirit of "The Snake People" (October 2003) touched me deeply. I would like to thank the contributor and Grapevine for publishing it. The passage "We Snakes are taking what misfortunes we were blessed enough to survive, and we are learning to build a stronger foundation upon the ashes of what once burned us and all that we once burned" brought to light a new meaning of my disease. Yes, I am a Snake Person and as I continue to meet my people in the rooms of AA, the bond we have is healing. My name is derived from the word "snake," which I always felt uncomfortable with. No more. Today, I sit with myself and learn to accept who I am.
