As part of my seminary training, I was fortunate to study in and around Jerusalem for over three months. During that time, I spent many hours in meetings at the Shalom Group (mentioned in the September 2003, Grapevine) and made many close friends, some from Jerusalem and some from the United States. I even gave a three-year chip to a man from New York, so quickly did we connect. Then on a recent trip to Rome, I took in a couple of meetings and lo! at one of them, a man from Jerusalem said his home group was the Shalom Group. I even knew his sponsor! Those experiences reminded me that though I may be physically close to a drink anywhere in the world, I am probably just as close to an AA meeting. Thank you, thank you, thank you AA!
