In Memoriam

Robert Smith II, the son of AA's co-founder Dr. Bob and his wife, Anne, died on April 22, 2004. A teenager when his father met Bill W. for the first time on Mother's Day 1935, "Smitty," as he was called, was the last eyewitness to the beginnings of Alcoholics Anonymous. He was active for many years in AA and Al-Anon functions worldwide, often speaking thirty to forty times a year, sharing his memories of AA's pioneering days and recalling how his parents brought alcoholics home to their Akron house to help them recover.
