A Tour of the AA Grapevine Offices

The Grapevine's first real office was a small one-room apartment near Grand Central Station, leased in September 1944. The editors had to vacate that apartment when the landlord discovered that it was being used as an office. The office moved to 405 W. 41 St., an old church building also housing a club for AAs. That building was sold later in the forties, and the Grapevine moved to 5-7 Minetta Lane in Greenwich Village--a dark basement in a condemned building. In the late forties, needing more space, the office moved to 241 East Broadway. In the early fifties, the editors moved to 141 East 44th St. The editorial and circulation departments moved to 305 East 45th St. in 1960. In 1970 the Grapevine moved again, to 468 Park Ave. South and in 1992 it relocated to its present offices at 475 Riverside Drive. The church building where the Grapevine office once resided, has long since been demolished, but originally occupied this corner which now houses a produce market.
