Facing fear

When I came into AA three and a half years ago, I was nothing more than fear encased in a human shell. Through my Fourth Step, I learned that fear was a large motivator for my drinking. Three weeks ago, I was told that there was a very good probability that I had cancer in my right lung. You guessed it: Fear took its usual stronghold and I began planning my funeral. That was old behavior. However, this time I did not have the obsession to dive into the bottle to combat the fear. I prayed for guidance and strength, just as I had done with my obsession to drink. I've learned that if I turn my life and will over to the care of God, things will work out as he will have it.
