Reflections on Forty Years of Sobriety

On a cold Sunday morning in February 1963, I made a quick trip outside to examine my car. Was there any blood or hair on the bumper? Could I have hit someone with it last night? It was impossible for me to remember anything, because I had been in an alcoholic blackout. I checked the car: no evidence of an accident. Good.
