I began going to AA when I got my first DUI. I had been doing quite well (most people thought) right up until that time. I had a nice house, two paid-far cars, almost no debt, and a nice-enough nest-egg so that my retirement was reasonably assured. I'd even won a prestigious award for my work during my last year of drinking. I looked pretty darn good on paper. But I had a problem, and I knew it.
