My drinking was progressing as the years went on. I did not know I was an untreated alcoholic. After I almost died with a bleeding ulcer, I did not partake of booze for three years. But I started up again with one beer after work, and in about two weeks, I was back where I had left off. I was fifty years old. For the next five years, drinking no longer did anything for me, but I wasn't able to quit.
