This morning I argued my first case in our state's Supreme Court. Although I have been lawyering for thirty years and sober for eleven, in preparing for the argument I became more and more aware of my growing self-centered fear. After all, I didn't want to look bad. The more I prepared, the more I realized I could not anticipate all the justices' questions.
