Free and easy

It was 1970 and everything I valued in life had gone. I was living in a tiny room, keeping insanity at bay with cheap wine. I arrived at an AA meeting feeling like a python, coiled and ready to strike. Careless of danger, a stranger walked up to me, smiled, and said, "Good to see you--keep coming back." The meeting started, and the only way I can describe what happened a short time later is that "it" let go of me. Until then, I had not been aware that anything held me in its vise-like grip. The relief was indescribable.
