Unprepared

I had been sober for about a year and a half when I got deployed to Iraq. I brought my pocket-sized Big Book and pocket-sized "Twelve and Twelve" with me. In the first month, I read my Big Book three times and the "Twelve and Twelve" four times. During that time, our deployment was extended to a year. Not long after that, my group sent me some Grapevines. Just in time! I have to admit, I'd seen the Grapevine at meetings and looked through it, but never I'd never actually read it. Since then, I've found out what a great tool the Grapevine is. It truly is "our meeting in print." Thanks to the Grapevine and my Higher Power, I was able to come back sober and sane.
