He had to get in the program not just on the program

At the age of thirty, I found myself homeless and living in a shack. I had been disowned by my family and thrown out of the house by my father. He couldn't put up with me even though he was an alcoholic, too. At this time, feeling very remorseful, I began to really hit the bottle. Two weeks later, to my surprise, I woke up in a local jail. A friend of mine who was in the next cell explained that I had caused a lot of trouble and that I really needed help. He suggested I go to AA.
