An Anniversary to Remember

Grief and celebration within the rooms of AA

A year ago last April, our home group, which meets every Sunday night, made plans for our chairman's twelfth anniversary in Alcoholics Anonymous. My job was to order the cake--all chocolate, of course--Richard's favorite. So on Tuesday night before the big event, when I saw Richard at another AA meeting, I mentioned that I had just ordered his cake. I knew that he had been ailing and hoped that this would brighten his spirits. He smiled and told me how much he was looking forward to this happy occasion.
