The Only Love I Knew

An AA with an indefinite sentence discovers a thing or two about success

I'm an old alcoholic C-number, and I've got close to thirty years in prison. C-numbers are people with indeterminate sentences; we have to see a Prisoner Review Board (P.R.B.) before we can make parole, unlike other prisoners who have a fixed out-date. The reason for this is that the laws changed in this state some twenty-five years ago, calling for fixed out-dates. But for most of the C-numbers, their sentences were not changed. So every year I get a big resentment that comes my way. Only through the help of the AA way of life am I somewhat sane and happy today.
