The August 2005 special section on anniversaries was exceptional. However, I think that the author of "Hold the Parade" missed the point of celebrating anniversaries. In a "we" Fellowship, we celebrate our milestones not only for ourselves but for everyone in the program, especially the ones that the old-timers share with us. This is my proof that AA works and gives me hope for the future. I also think that there is a need for the upbeat atmosphere that celebrations bring, for recovery is often difficult for many in our midst. So, I say, have the parade not for ourselves, but for others.
