Between Me and a Drink
I was sober just about two weeks on that particular Sunday in April. I left my house at 4:30 that afternoon with the excuse that I was going to look for a newspaper, when what I really intended to do was to look for an open liquor store. I had never shopped for booze on Sunday nor did I take note of the fact that the liquor stores in New York State were closed on Sundays. When I bought my stash, it was usually on a weekday after work. Most often, I bought a large, two-liter bottle of scotch, since that would last me longer and dispel my guilt about making more frequent liquor purchases.
