I read "Victor E." in the November 2004 issue and the idea that Victor E., with sweat vaulting off his brow as he stands outside a bar, is the embodiment of anyone in a fit spiritual condition drives me to distraction. Once upon a time, anyone who was standing outside a bar, sweating, would likely have been directed to the part of the Big Book that informed him that it would be worth a good case of the jitters to have a good understanding of his condition.
