AA takes root in Saint Maarten

After years of denial about my drinking, I finally decided to seek help, only to find that I had another problem: finding someone on the Caribbean Island on which I live who knew something about people with a drinking problem. I had moved to my "tropical paradise" in 1972 and found that it truly was a haven for people who drank the way I did. Everyone, it seemed, was a heavy drinker, and there was absolutely no stigma attached to going to work with booze on your breath or to taking extended lunch hours. There were plenty of bars and lots of booze, but nowhere to get help if a person wanted to stop--or so I thought.
