Al-Anon

The author's description of her still-suffering uncle in "Operation Acceptance" (April, 2005) is one of the most harrowing portraits of the untreated disease of alcoholism that I have ever read or heard. The writer admits more than once how angry she was at the AA member who offered to try to twelfth-step her uncle, yet failed to offer her the help she so desperately needed. This is precisely what Al-Anon was founded for, to offer help and hope to the families and friends of alcoholics--indeed, to anyone having a problem with someone else's drinking.
