Through the Finish Line

You can't win unless you keep going

I am a retired corrections officer. I drank heavily throughout most of my career, but indications of alcoholism appeared earlier than that. When I was seventeen years old, I went to a house party where there was plenty of booze available. The last thing I remember was chugging a tumbler of straight whiskey. I woke up in the hospital and had no idea why I was there: I felt fine. My mother didn't say much. Later, one of my friends told me they thought I had overdosed and had called an ambulance.
