February 11, 1970, I was taken to my first meeting of AA by a member who convinced me of two facts, which I believe today. First, if an alcoholic continues to drink, the end result is insanity and then death. Second, on a daily basis I did not need to drink, because he, also an alcoholic, had not had a drink for over three years. Since that first meeting, I have not knowingly drunk alcohol, and I am pretty content with life.
