Mr. Irresistible

He was better, stronger, and faster than anyone else. Why was she talking to him about her drinking?

In 1992, right out of the blue and with no provocation whatsoever, this woman named Carolyn asked me to go to lunch. She was a good friend of my girlfriend, so I assumed this had nothing to do with romance, even though I was so self-centered and arrogant at the time that I wouldn't have held it against her if it did--I mean, I was irresistible, after all. So I went out to lunch with her, and she began to talk about how she used to drink a lot, but that she had quit. And I thought, Why in the hell is this woman telling me this stuff?
