It answers the big question, "Why do alcoholics drink?

I am an alcoholic. I am also an engineer, and my engineering mind-set follows me all the time, even to meetings, where I am constantly trying to figure things out. For every effect, there has to be a root cause, and looking for the source of problem is what I am trained to do. When it comes to alcoholism, surely it must boil down to a problem in chemistry, right? I mean, alcohol is a chemical, my body is a biological mechanism, so whatever reaction these two have together can surely be measured in a lab. Therefore, the solution must exist somewhere in science.
